The
Big Texas Toy Run is one of, if not the largest biker runs in the world and
benefits Mental Health-Mental Retardation (MHMR) of Tarrant County, Dallas
MetroCare, and other children's charities in the Metroplex, where the toys
are distributed to thousands of underprivileged and challenged children all
over the Metroplex. All funds disbursed are earmarked for educational needs
and recreational use only. The date for this years’ run is December 16,
2007 and should be another great time!
To give you an idea of the size of this event, approximately 30,000 motorcycles
meet in downtown Dallas, another 40,000 meet in downtown Ft. Worth, and 10,000
or so in Grapevine, TX. Can you imagine the time and effort it would take just
to make arrangements for parking and placement of all these bikes? Not to mention
directing them, blocking off streets, coordinating the ride to Arlington ,
how to handle the arrival of all these bikes, and how to route all these bikers
in and out of the Convention Center, etc.? Nick and his crew fully understand
the level of commitment it takes and do a fantastic job!
70,000 bikes – time to leave those cities and like clockwork, they all
arrive in Arlington , Texas . You can hear these guys and gals a mile or so
away. The parade of bikes into Arlington lasts about an hour and a half and
the entire Texas Rangers baseball parking, along with the Arlington Convention
Center parking lots are filled to capacity! It is a true sea of shiny metal,
chrome and leather.
Think about a professional football or baseball game. There are roughly 35,000
fans in attendance. Imagine doubling the number attending and putting each
person attending the game on a motorcycle. That is HUGE!
Why does he give up so many hours of his personal time to help coordinate this
event? Nick has been involved with The Big Texas Toy Run for 21 years and his
reply is simply… “It’s all about the kids.” Nick has
surrounded himself with a very loyal and hard working crew that does an incredible
job! “Each member of the team has the right mind set and understands
why they are there.”
Bikers are an interesting breed and often get overlooked for their good works.
There are literally thousands of kids whose lives are made better because of
the hard work these men and women do for our community. Nick and the others
that put on The Big Texas Toy Run - Thank you for all you do!
