Big wad of bubble gum

makes it hard to breathe

Imagine we are leaving a candy shop with a BIG bag of chewing gum. Let’s chew one stick of gum… Not too bad… Sweet and enjoyable. Heck, let’s blow a bubble. Not taking the first piece out, let’s put another stick of bubble gum into our mouths. Still yummy. We can really blow big bubbles now. Walk another block and put four more sticks of bubble gum into our mouths.

About now, our cheeks are getting really full and it is probably getting a little harder to breathe. What the heck, let’s chew two more!

The more gum you have in your mouth, the harder it is to breathe and your body has to work harder and harder to get the air into your lungs.

Believe it or not, your motorcycle engine works on a very similar pattern. When a clean air filter is used, the air flows right through it and the filter collects a lot of the dirt and debris that is floating in the air, kind of like the chewing gum. The more debris that collects, the harder your engine has to work to pull air into the system and robs your bike of potential horsepower.

Just like walking home from the candy store, the amount of air we breathe, helps us function, much like the air filter does on your bike. Next time you think about grabbing some gum and blowing a bubble, change your air filter and keep all those horses and power in your bike.
