2008 Big Texas Toy Run
Bikers are a tough crew. How many people do you know can handle 25 degree temps, arriving to an event about 3 hours before it begins and riding a bike about 60 mph. Wind chill? I don't want to think about it! My nose has finally thawed.
Did the weather deter the bikers? Some of them, but there were still over 40,000 that participated in the event. The Arlington Convention Center was completely packed and a ton of toys and money were raised to help kids in need.

Riding
the Talimena
The Talimena Scenic Drive is 54 miles of incredible curvy roads, beautiful landscape, the occasional deer standing on the side of the road, and a lot of fun to ride on the bike. It is located in Eastern Oklahoma/Western Arkansas and runs along the top of the Ouachita mountains .

Do you have any hobbies and want to share your experience with the other KSU readers? Maybe you are into photography, movies, gardening, yoga, painting, autograph collecting, crafts, etc. There are a lot of talented people out there and part of the purpose of this site is to share and learn from life's experiences. Send me an article or two and we will do our best to make a category and will give you credit for the article. Starting this section off with Autograph Collecting.
Meet one of the leaders of the Big Texas Toy Run – Nick Taddonio! No, Nick is not Santa, but he does have a heart of gold! Why would someone give up countless hours and help coordinate one of the largest motorcycle rides in the nation? One answer – “It’s all about the kids”… read more!
Do you love motorcycles? The sounds of a chugging engine, riding with friends, tattoos, paint schemes, feeling the wind whip around you as you zoom down the road, and yes, even the smell of exhaust. No matter what kind of bike you ride... A cruiser, chopper, sports bike, or dirt bike, we all have the same passion... We love bikes!
Kick Stands Up (KSU) is the phrase we use to set a meeting time for a motorcycle ride. It means - this is when we leave and start our adventure. Kind of like this website. We are going to go on adventures, discover new places to ride, meet new people, find out what makes other bikers tick, and have a little fun on the way. And, so we begin with this first edition of KSU.
The Newsletter section has stories about rides, places to visit, special events, and financial tips. There are so many great places to ride bikes. The October newsletter covers a ride we did through Eastern Oklahoma and Western Arkansas. Sure was beautiful. It also has some information about some biker groups and the good work one group is doing.
Think you have a pretty cool ride? Click on KSU Bikes link and get your bike posted. There are lots of really cool bikes out there and why not show off your bike and tell us a little bit about it. What kind of bike is it? What modifications you have made to it?
Most bikers are part of a biking group and help out the community. Are you part of a riding organization and want to get your group recognized for the good works you do? KSU gives us a chance to brag about the biking community and the good work bikers do. Bikers definitely do make a difference and we want to recognize those that put forth extra effort to make their communities a better place to live. Click on the Biker Group link on the left and send some information about your group, pictures, and include a brief description of what y’all do and how you make life better.
Other topics that we will cover include: bike maintenance, personal finance and budgets. On the maintenance side, we will include some simple things that you can check to make sure your bike is running in top form, and on the personal finance and budget side, we will cover topics like asking the right questions when getting motorcycle insurance, ways to finance your bike, and even cover non bike related topics like Private Mortgage Insurance on mortgages and tips to help you save money at home. Bikes are not cheap, and want to show you ways to help pay for these things we love to ride!
Are bikers good cooks? You bet! Having attended numerous cook outs, bar-b-que’s, and dinners, I think bikers are some of the best cooks out there! Send us your favorite recipe and we will put it on the Recipe and Fun Stuff link on the left. There will also be some fun things for both Bikers and Bikers’ kids including word searches and other activities.
