Waverly Pet Rescue

waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

We are not a shelter. We are a small group of people with a sincere love for animals. The towns we live in do not have shelters so we are helping the homeless pets that have nowhere else to go. All the animals that we have will live in our homes until adopted no matter how long that takes. We are very committed to the animals we are helping.

Animal Welfare Services

http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/IA12.html

Animal Welfare Services is a local group dedicated to networking all the Pet Professionals in the area together. We hope to network vets, pet store owners, rescue volunteers, shelter workers, boarding kennel owners and pet sitters, groomers and more.

We are in the process of getting our 501c3 (should be done by February 1 2008) and hope to have a local shelter by January 2009. I am the Internet Coordinator for Animal Welfare Services. We are *not yet* a shelter. Our volunteers are individuals who take animals into their own homes as they are able. Many times the animal stays in it's current home until a new home is found.

PAWS & More Animal Shelter

Located in Washington, Iowa, PAWS & More Animal Shelter is a non-profit, adoption guarantee shelter. In other words, we only euthanize if absolutely medically or behaviorally necessary. Our animals do not just run out of time. They are with us until they find forever homes, and we strive for that to be as short of time as possible. PAWS primarily serves Washington County, Iowa, and all cities within it, but we have several volunteers in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, area. We do adoption days the first Saturday of the month at Petsmart and the second Saturday at Petco, both located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We receive, on average, 550-600 animals per year. The shelter's income comes primarily from adoption fees, donations, grants, and fundraising activities. The local city and county government donations only cover a small percentage of the shelter's annual budget and are used primarily to support staff salaries and insurance.

Our contact info is below and animals available for adoption can be seen at:

Midwest Dog Rescue Network

http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/IA155.html

Email: mtway@hotmail.com

We are a "network" of volunteer rescuers in the Midwest . Many of us have known one another for years from helping with various local rescue groups, shelters, and national breed rescue groups. All of us have had the experience of coming across a dog that needed help that didn’t have a rescue group that could take them into their program. We were finding that regardless of breed or whether a dog is "purebred", there are many of us out there who wanted to help these dogs and need a place to list them. Therefore, we decided to start Midwest Dog Rescue Network to help rescuers help dogs that would otherwise "fall through the cracks". We are a collection of rescuers and some good-hearted individuals, who are just trying to help as many good dogs find homes as possible.

H.E.A.R.T. Hardin Eldora Animal Rescue Team

We are state inspected and licensed. Our purpose is to promote spay and neuter, prevent cruelty and neglect, educate the public, practice Trap, Neuter, Return of feral cats, reunite lost pets with their owners and rescue and rehome abandoned and unwanted animals. We do this out of our homes with limited resources, no outside funding and little community support. Financial and space constraints keep the number of animals we are able to help much smaller than we would like. No animal is ever 'put to sleep' to make room for another! We are not 501(c)3 yet but we are definitely non-profit! All animals are spayed or neutered and fully vetted before being offered for adoption. Look for us @ www.heart-eldora.petfinder.com

Greenbelt Humane Society

Our website is petfinder.com. Our contact information is 1124 Water St., Alden Iowa, 50006; (515)859-7770; greenbelthumane@wmtel.net. A description of our focus: Our focus is on seeking suitable homes for homeless animals, vaccinating and altering animals at our shelter and returning animals to their owner. We are one of 800 no-kill facilities in the United States. We deal primarily with cats and small animals but are willing to help place dogs. You mentioned articles. I do not have the articles with me to cite, but two points of interest. Cats only meow to humans, not other cats. Also if you have a cat that likes to scratch furniture, use citrus scented cleaner/polish. Cats do not like the smell of citrus.

JRT Rescue

We cover the states of Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas. We take Jack Russells into our care who have been abandoned, relinquished by their owners or brought to shelters as strays. We provide the terriers any needed veterinary care and place them in a foster home. We are not a shelter but provide foster care for the dogs until they have their forever home. We do not have a shelter facility. In foster care, we try to find out as much as we can about the terrier's temperament and about any special needs it might have. We socialize the terrier and work on house training. The dog remains in foster care until a permanent, loving home can be found. Foster dogs are in various locations so please call/email for information on a particular dog.
