Greater New Orleans Therapeutic Riding Center

www.gnotrc.com

We're a greater New Orleans nonprofit 501 C 3 organization that provides horse assisted activities for children and adults with disabilities. Quite a few of our horses are here with their second lease on life, though they did have to go thru a fairly stringent process to make sure they are suitable. We also have lots of other animals, received from folks who no longer could keep them. We have limited space, but the goats and potbellied pigs and chickens help our little ones who are afraid of the horses transition to the bigger animals. We provide horse assisted activities for children and adults, and this year started our "Horses for Heroes" program, though on a small scale, where injured War Veterans come to the riding center. THe goal is to have comrades help fallen comrades with this activity

Looziana Bassett Hound Rescue,

www.bayoubassets.petfinder.org, located in Harvey, Louisiana
Looziana Basset Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit volunteer effort to save abandoned and mistreated basset hounds for the love of the breed. Our rescued bassets are from shelters all over Louisiana and Mississippi, are strays whose owners cannot be found, or are relinquished by owners who no longer want them. Changing lifestyles, the economy, and lack of responsibility are some of the reasons for the abundance of abandoned basset hounds.

Looziana Basset Rescue takes the orphaned bassets into foster care, where they are loved and cared for until permanent adoptive homes can be found. We provide veterinary care that includes vaccinations, heartworm treatment if necessary, and spaying or neutering. We completely rehabilitate, both physically and emotionally, any adoptable dog and prepare him/her for a "forever home."
