The Out of Harm's Way mission is to improve the lives of homeless, abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs through our rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing efforts. We endeavor to remove them from harms way by pulling them from kill shelters, taking them in through owner surrenders, providing for their immediate medical needs, evaluating their behavioral and social needs, then finding suitable placements for them so that they may live out the remainder of their lives happy, healthy, and well loved. We seek to show all these animals the love and respect they deserve that comes through humane care, heartfelt compassion, and the touch of human kindness.
When our dogs are placed, Out of Harm's Way requires an adoption contract to be signed by the adoptive family. We hold this as a legal and binding contract between the rescue and the adoptive family insuring the future well being of their new family member.
Out of Harm's Way also requires an adoption fee with each adoption so that our rescue may cover the inevitable costs involved in pulling, vetting, maintaining, and placing these needy dogs. Each new rescue dog requires a hefty financial outlay. Adoption fees enable us to continue our rescue efforts by supporting ongoing expenses and provide reimbursement for the cost of the spay/neuter, microchipping, and any veterinary care required prior to placement, and in most instances, even travel costs.
In all cases, the expenses related to a particular dog will be covered by the set adoption fee. While the adoption fees may seem higher for some dogs, please remember that our rescue has invested tons of time, effort, and money into all these dogs. We simply must recoup this investment in order to continue rescuing needy animals. You may also consider that if a higher adoption fee is beyond your means, you may need to consider a pet which does not require as much care and expense as a dog. However, keep in mind, the normal care and upkeep of any pet requires an ongoing financial outlay.
OOHW is a group of independent rescuers working together in a regional rescue network. We are based, for the most part, in Charlotte, NC and Spartanburg, SC. However, we have volunteers all over NC/SC and as far away as Virginia and Alaska.

Who We Are
Project HALO is a non-profit, NO-KILL rescue organization based in Charlotte,
N.C. We are a 100% volunteer organization and are privately funded. Without
volunteers and private donations we would not exist. We rescue homeless, stray
and unwanted dogs. We take care of all the vet work including shots, sterilization
and heartworm treatment, when necessary. All of Project HALO's animals are
vet current and sterilized prior to adoption. We feel that this is the only
way to run an animal shelter in a responsible manner.
The Animal Awareness Society Inc
The Animal Awareness Society Inc. (TAAS) is dedicated to reducing the number of unwanted and feral cats in the area through spaying and neutering. We go door to door speaking to people and passing out fliers in an attempt to educate the citizens of the Triad about local animal laws, animal care, the benefits of spaying and neutering and the problems that arise from not spaying and neutering.
The main goal of the Society is to greatly reduce the number of unwanted cats, find homes for adoptable cats, and find caretakers for feral colonies after they have been spayed or neutered. TAAS plans to accomplish this goal by targeting heavy cat populated areas and concentrating our education efforts there. TAAS wishes greatly to get the community officials and citizens alike involved in this program and help them realize that as a community great things are possible - but only if we work together.

I, myself started rescuing some time ago. The family kind of got drafted into it when I had 16 puppies at once. Their ages ranged from 1 day to two weeks. My husband and kids jumped in to help. They found it very rewarding and have been helping ever since. We do this out of our home. We have pens in the back for all the animals. We make sure that we play with them every day. We make sure that they are well socialized before they go to a new home.

Sound Pet Animal Rescue and Referral (SPARR)
Sound Pet Animal Rescue and Referral (SPARR) is a 501c3 non-profit, volunteer-run organization concerned with the welfare of dogs and cats. SPARR started its rescue in late 2005. We rescue stray and abandoned dogs and cats from high-kill shelters place them in caring foster homes and then adopt them into loving, life-long homes.
The reason cats and dogs have to be rescued in the first place is that there are too many of them and not enough homes! We believe that the best way to attack the overpopulation problem is to attack the root of the problem-prevent more dogs and cats from being born. Every dog and cat that SPARR rescues is spayed or neutered before being placed in his/her adoptive home.
Rescue: We rescue all types, ages and sizes of mixed and purebred dogs and
cats from high-kill animal shelters throughout central North Carolina. Many
of these shelters tragically have to gas or euthanize hundreds of 'adoptable'
dogs and cats each month to make room for more abandoned and homeless dogs
and cats. Once rescued, these animals are placed into our family of foster
homes.
Foster: Foster homes provide care and love for these wonderful dogs while we
work to find permanent homes. While in foster care, healthcare, including spay/neuter
is provided for the dogs and cats, plus they receive exercise, affection and
are socialized, to better prepare them for their new adoptive families.
Adoption: Matching responsible dog and cat guardians with SPARR dogs and cats takes place at adoption events and through a diligent system of public outreach. We carefully interview potential adopters to ensure that the right match is made. We ask questions about lifestyle, desired activity level, work situation and gather other pertinent information from potential guardians. Too often dogs and cats end up in shelters because they were never a good match for their previous home in the first place. At SPARR, we look for people who intend to provide a home for the life of their new pet and understand what that requires.

Tailless Cat Rescue

Dedicated to finding exceptional homes for exceptional cats.
Specializing in Manx, but we'll accept Japanese or American Bobtails and Pixie-bobs
TCR is run entirely out of foster homes. So the number of cats we can take at a time is limited to the space we have. We also have to respect NC law which limits the number of animals that can be fostered at a time. And we will only have as many cats as we can afford to care for at one time.
TCR is all about the cats. The rescue is based on the highest standards of honesty, ethics, and care for the cats in our program. Our motto is "Dedicated to finding exceptional homes for exceptional cats". And Manx and other tailless breeds really have exceptional personalities and deserve the best homes possible.
Most of the cats come from animal shelters or pounds where they have run out of time and are going to be euthanized. We generally don't take owner surrendered cats. We believe that once you make a commitment to a cat, it should be for a lifetime. We will assist owners in how to find homes for their cats if they can no longer keep them, and will provide access to expert advice on solving behavioral or health problems so that it is more likely they can stay in their homes."
